This website was created by students in Cabrini University's Senior Convergence capstone course. They are eager to share their research and reporting with you so that you will join them in supporting issues of voting justice in the United States.

Note the Spring 2020 Project Team Members worked virtually during the second half of their semester due to the COVID-19 global pandemic. Neither lock downs nor social distancing stopped their work!

Matthew DeMaria

Matthew will graduate from Cabrini University in May 2020 with a bachelor's degree in Digital Communication and Social Media. While at Cabrini, Matthew has learned to communicate in multiple media formats, and has put these skills to the test while being a social media intern for Kulture Hub. Matthew is a member of the Cabrini University Men’s Tennis team and won his third straight conference title in the spring of 2019. Matthew has also worked as a staff writer for the university’s award-winning student news organization, The Loquitur. Outside of Cabrini, Matthew works as a freelance photographer. Mike Gerzabek

Mike will graduate from Cabrini University in May 2020 with a bachelor’s degree in Digital Communication and Social Media. At Cabrini, Mike learned  to communicate in multiple forms of media. He put this knowledge to use as an intern for the video production company, Next Level Video. At Cabrini, Mike also worked as a staff writer for the university’s award-winning campus news organization, The Loquitur. Outside of Cabrini, Mike started his own music-based media company Ckold Cklips, where he directs, films, and edits music videos. Mike is also a member of Cabrini Men’s Lacrosse team and won the NCAA DIII Men’s Lacrosse National Championship in 2019. On this website, Mike produced stories focused on many important topics, including how to register to vote in several different states. Tyler Kostack

Tyler is a senior Communication major at Cabrini University. He is expected to graduate with a bachelor’s degree in December 2020. In the Spring of 2020, Tyler will intern with Preferred Sportswear, running their social media platforms to branch out to new events and businesses nationwide. He will be focusing on platforms such as Instagram, Facebook, and Snapchat. Tyler has experience in photography, videography, marketing, PR, and running two businesses focusing on photography and a sports organization aside from school and lacrosse. Tyler’s stories on this website are about youth voting and how important the “younger generations” vote counts and to raise awareness about voting in general. The goal is to encourage and see improvement in younger people registering and voting. After graduation, Tyler plans to get his real estate license, continue running his businesses, and pursue his lacrosse career to the next level. Elizabeth Libetti

Elizabeth will graduate from Cabrini University in May 2020 with a bachelor’s degree in Communication. During her time at Cabrini, Elizabeth has created a multitude of projects in a variety of media forms including text, video, and audio. Some of her projects include a detailed analysis of the social movement Time’s Up, as well as an educational multimedia piece on what is is like for a mother to raise a son with autism. On this website, Elizabeth produced stories focused on the National Popular Vote Interstate Compact, as well as (summarize your Threats story and Solutions story). Maddie Logue

Maddie is a senior Communication major at Cabrini University with a Theatre minor. She is expected to graduate with a bachelor’s degree in May 2020. In the Summer of 2019, Maddie interned at the Borgata Hotel Casino & Spa where she helped the organization grow its social media presence. Among her accomplishments at her internship, Maddie, produced the top-performing post for the Borgata in June on Facebook with 1,660 engagements, 456 likes, 852 clicks, and 37 shares. She captured and shared content related to entertainment, events, hotel property, and food & beverage on Instagram and Facebook Stories  to engage and raise brand awareness among returning and prospective customers. Maddie has experience in journalism, videography, social media marketing and analytics, and event planning. For this website she has created audio, video, and text of various topics such as political social media campaigns, early voting, and increasing youth voter registration. The goals of her stories are to influence college students to educate themselves on politics and voting rights. Outside the classroom, Maddie performs in Cabrini Theatre’s fall and spring productions. After graduation Maddie plans to seek a career in the social media marketing where she can further her learning in creating brand awareness. Roderick Miller

Roderick will graduate from Cabrini University with a bachelor’s degree in Digital Communication and Social Media in May 2020. At Cabrini, Roderick was a staff writer for the school’s award-winning news organization, The Loquitur.  Outside the classroom, Roderick was a member of Cabrini’s Black Student Union, as well as Cavs Care, a program to assist first generation college students at Cabrini. Outside of college, Roderick pursued his entrepreneurial goals by building his own brand. For this website, Roderick produced numerous stories. Abigail Scardelletti

Abigail is a Communication major and Political Science minor at Cabrini University. She will be graduating with her bachelor’s degree in May 2020. During her time at Cabrini, Abigail was a member of the Voices of Justice Learning Community, and a staff writer turned Circulation Manager for the university’s award-winning student news organization, The Loquitur. In her senior year, Abigail served as an Editorial Intern for ReminderMedia where she worked on Lifestyle blogs for the American Lifestyle Magazine and StartHealthy.com. She is also a contributing writer for the podcast and blog, the Pigeon Coop. Abigail write gamers and has a weekly and monthly column providing information about the NHL and NWHL.  As a student-journalist, Abigail works with others to find and share stories that matter. Eva Soler

Eva will graduate May 2020 from Cabrini University with a bachelor’s degree in Digital Communication and Social Media. At Cabrini, Eva has spent her time reporting for the award-winning student news organization, The Loquitur, both writing and producing video packages. Eva has interned as a Social Media Manager for Hill Top Preparatory school, managing social media and creating campaigns. Eva also ran her own freelance photography business and worked multiple jobs at the same time. Eva has worked diligently to create content continuously for Cabrini University. Eva’s skills include Editing in Adobe Premiere and Final Cut Pro, filming, writing and photography. Melissa Szymborski

Melissa will graduate with her bachelor’s degree in Communication from Cabrini University in December 2019. During her time at Cabrini, Melissa produced stories in audio, video, and text for her journalism, multimedia and advertising courses. Outside of school, Melissa has been focused on building a life for herself, and upon graduation, will pursue a career in the banking industry. Kathryn Taylor

Kathryn is a Digital Communication and Social Media major at Cabrini University who will graduate in May 2020. In the Spring semester of 2019, Kathryn  was an Assistant Editor for Loquitur Media, the school’s award-winning news organization’s social media accounts. Outside of the Communication Department, Kathryn is also involved in campus clubs such as Leadstrong and the Food Recovery Network. For this website, Kathryn has reported on the process candidates follow in order to seek public office as well as other important topics. Gianni Williams-Clarke

Gianni will graduate May 2020 from Cabrini University with a bachelor’s degree in Digital Communication and Social Media, and a minor in Spanish. At Cabrini, Gianni reported  for the university’s award-winning student news organization, The Loquitur. Stepping outside of the classroom, Gianni interned at a small non-profit organization, Media Dei, that creates a social media footprint for other non-profits such as schools and churches. For this website, Gianni told stories in multiple media focused on many important topics. Throughout her college career, Gianni has been engaged in social justice storytelling using her skills in Adobe Premiere Pro, filming and editing. After graduation, Gianni hopes to be a visual journalist, visually telling the stories of those who have a story to tell. Megan Willing

Megan is a Digital Communication and Social Media major at Cabrini University and will be graduating in May of 2020 with her bachelor’s degree in this field of study. In the Fall of 2019 she interned with the Annual Giving Office at Cabrini. Megan was inducted into Delta Alpha Pi Honor Society, and she has achieved Dean’s List honors throughout her college career. On campus, Megan has been involved in the Cavalier Dance Company and is an on-air personality on 89.1 WYBF FM Cavalier Radio. In Spring of 2019 she traveled to Guatemala for a week-long study abroad experience, and while she was there, her views on some issues of poverty and global migration were changed. Because of this change, she feels that voting is more important than ever. People can make change in certain areas if they vote for candidates who hold their similar beliefs and views. RJ Wolf

RJ will graduate with a bachelor's degree in Communication in December 2020. While at Cabrini, RJ has learned how to communicate through multiple media platforms including video, audio, text and social media.. RJ looks to pursue an internship in the Summer of 2020 in South Jersey. RJ is a member of the Cabrini Men’s Lacrosse team and won the Division III Men’s Lacrosse Championship in May 2019. RJ was also a member of Cabrini’s award-winning student news organization, The Loquitur, as a staff writer. On this website, RJ focused on topics dealing with the differences between the electoral vote and the popular vote, along with felony disenfranchisement and the League of Women Voters and their fight to make voting important to all genders and races. After graduation, RJ is looking to work in advertising or going back to school and getting a master’s degree in Education and to continue his play and coaching in lacrosse. Amanda Zacharias

Amanda will graduate in May 2020 from Cabrini University with a bachelor’s degree in Digital Communication and Social Media. Amanda has also earned an Associate’s Degree in Digital Broadcasting from Montgomery County Community College. Amanda excels at  communicating in multiple media formats. She has been a staff writer for Cabrini’s award-winning student news organization, The Loquitur, as well as created a multitude of videos throughout her production career. Amanda has also been invited by her professors to serve as a Classroom Coach for three semesters in a Multimedia Story Creation class. While studying for school and making the Dean's List every semester, Amanda also spent time as a subject area tutor for math and science. Amanda is not afraid to take leadership roles and is confident in her skills in text, audio, and video production as well as in social media marketing and analytics. On this website, Amanda produced stories designed to educate youth voters on the electoral college, how votes are suppressed by limiting early voting and a local organization that offers helpful information. With her certifications in HubSpot and Google Analytics, Amanda hopes to pursue a career in social media marketing after completing her education at Cabrini. Justin Barnes

Justin Barnes will graduate from Cabrini University in May 2020 with a bachelor’s degree in Digital Communications and Social Media. At Cabrini, Justin learned to communicate in multiple forms of media, often using his skills to communicate for human rights and social justice. During the fall semester of 2019, Justin put his knowledge of marketing and social media to good use during an internship at Cabrini’s Student Engagement and Leadership Office. While interning there, Justin designed print advertisements and social media posts for multiple events the office hosted, as well as produced the December activity calendar. At Cabrini, Justin was a staff writer, and then became the Editor for the Lifestyles section of the award-winning student run school news operation, The Loquitur. Justin was also a student ambassador for Cabrini’s Admissions Office and a member of Cabrini’s Mental Health Club. Justin produced a variety of stories for this website including pieces on gerrymandering, the lack of youth voting, and celebrity influence on voting. Angelina Capozzi

Angelina Capozzi will graduate from Cabrini University in May 2020 with a bachelor's degree in Communication. Angelina is a member of Phi Beta Kappa which is an honor society to which members are elected on the basis of high academic achievement. Angelina has maintained a GPA of 3.8 her entire college career. During her full-time studies at Cabrini, Angelina has also balanced working a full-time job at Upper Gwynedd Township as the township’s Program Coordinator. At Cabrini, Angelina has served as an ambassador and photographer for Cabrini’s Alumni Association. She has traveled to Guatemala twice working with the San Lucas Mission. During her latest visit in February 2020, Angelina took photos of the San Lucas Mission and its people for a website she created that showcases an interactive map of the communities around San Lucas. In her free time Angelina runs her own photography business and enjoys writing stories. She was assistant editor for Cabrini’s award-winning, student-run newspaper, The Loquitur, and won Cabrini’s 2018 Inspiring Action story contest. On this website, Angelina told stories about the changes to voting machines over the years, the threat of voter machine hacking, and ways to get students on college campuses to become voters. Stephanie McClelland

Stephanie McClelland will graduate from Cabrini University in May of 2020 with a bachelor’s degree in Digital Communication and Social Media and a Psychology minor. During her time at Cabrini, Stephanie has increased her writing competency by being a staff writer for the school’s award-winning, student-run news organization, The Loquitur. Through her courses in the Communication Department at Cabrini, Stephanie has been able to explore different types of storytelling through the creation of multimedia projects. She has also been able to learn more about digital communication by studying the logistics of social media and learning to combine that information with skills she has learned through Integrated Marketing Communication. Because of these insights, Stephanie is able to create many different marketing strategies that will attract and target specific audiences, as well as encourage users to become more engaged with content. Stephanie served as a member of a semester-long project team to develop an integrated marketing communication plan for the Cabrini University Communication Department. The skills she has obtained at Cabrini have helped her earn her HubSpot and Google Analytics certifications as well as learn to write, shoot, direct, edit and produce visual media. Stephanie has loved having the opportunity to infuse her knowledge of Psychology into her Communication work by creating a lot of different projects that pertain to mental health topics, a subject that has always been close to her heart.  She hopes to continue to work in mental health to help those who may not be able to help themselves. Ryan McDevitt

Ryan is graduating from Cabrini University in May 2020 with a bachelor’s degree in Communication. While at Cabrini, Ryan discovered his passion for public relations and community engagement. Ryan put these passions into practice at his internship with the HEADstrong Foundation where he has worked for 8 months. Since he was 14-years-old Ryan has been working jobs that have supplied him with the skills he has today. When not working or studying, Ryan plays club lacrosse and is a volunteer at the American Diabetes Association as a camp counselor. Emily Miller

Emily will graduate from Cabrini University in May 2020 with a bachelor's degree in Digital Communication and Social Media. Throughout her four years at Cabrini, Emily has maintained a GPA of 3.5 and has been honored with the Dean's List Award on four occasions. At Cabrini, Emily has learned to be a strong communicator and effective multimedia storyteller. She has held several important leadership positions, such as Assistant Lifestyles Editor, followed by Web/Copy Editor for The Loquitur, and Marketing Director for Cavalier Radio. Emily has grown her leadership and digital storytelling skill sets through these roles, as well as her academic efforts in her digital marketing and social media courses. In addition, Emily had the opportunity to leave a lasting impact on San Lucas Tolíman, Guatemala, through CRS and the Friends of San Lucas, and to lobby on their behalf in Washington D.C. to aides of PA senators Pat Toomey and Bob Casey. Emily also spent a semester in Rome, Italy, where she studied courses such as ‘Italian Language,’ ‘Italian Art & History’ and took several off-campus immersion courses, such as ‘Berlin Culture & Dilemma’ in Berlin, Germany, and ‘Sicily Against the Mafia’ in Sicily, Italy. Emily has furthered her education and expertise through her internship at Holy Child Academy, and in her current position as Marketing Intern at GeoBlue, where she has been offered full-time employment following graduation. While producing pieces for YouthVotersUnite, Emily strived to use the skills she has gained to explore issues that aren’t typically communicated to a young voting audience. Josh Sanchez

Josh Sanchez will graduate in May 2020 as a double major in Psychology and Communication from Cabrini University. During his college career, Josh made Dean’s List for all four years, graduating with a 3.71 GPA. Josh interned at 6 ABC Philadelphia from August to December of 2018 as a Production Intern for the show “High School Huddle,” which focuses on high school football in the Delco area. During Josh’s Senior year at Cabrini, he was inducted in the Psy Chi Honor Society and the Society for Collegiate Journalists. For fun, Josh runs two podcasts on Apple Podcasts and Spotify. They are Swoop Radio, a sports and mental health podcast, and Behavior Vortex, a psychology podcast. For this website, Josh wrote about the lack of political education in early elementary public schools. He also created a podcast about the NAACP and how they try to stop voter suppression toward people of color and produced a video about the history of voting rights for people of color. Connor Tustin

Connor will graduate from Cabrini University in May 2020 with a bachelor’s degree in Digital Communication and Social Media. During his time at Cabrini, Connor held a variety of positions in departments around the university including student ambassador for the Admissions office, NCAA student-athlete on the Men’s Cross Country team, and student blogger for the Marketing and Communication Department. He also spent a semester as the social media intern for the Cabrini University Office of Admissions.  In addition to Connor’s work around the institution, he spent many hours working to develop his skills within the Communication Department. During the 2018-19 academic year, Connor served as the Editor-in-Chief of Cabrini University’s award-winning student news organization, The Loquitur. Connor is also a part of two honor societies on campus, the Society of Collegiate Journalists and the Omnicron Delta Kappa Honor Society. In May of 2019, Connor began a new journey in Orlando, Florida as a participant in the Disney College Program at the Walt Disney World Resort. While working for The Walt Disney Company, Connor gained ample leadership experience, customer service skills and professional development. While producing content for Youth Voters Unite, Connor wanted to expose and explain a collection of voter injustices that continually plague our democracy. Some of the topics he focused on were gerrymandering, voter purges, and how youth voters can still play a major role in elections from home. ABOUT

Youth Voters Unite is a transmedia storytelling project produced by senior Communication majors at Cabrini University. Students in Senior Convergence: Media for Social Justice are reporting this academic year on the voting process and voting justice topics. Their goal is to educate youth voters on the importance of engaging in the political process and claiming their right to shape their own future.
